As I mentioned, I enjoy working with others, especially if it’s for the support of the community. One such instance was being a part of the local Money Diver’s brand pop-up shop and photo exhibit. Myself and other photographers in the city were brought together to showcase black and white photos that represent community as a part of the launch of their Drug War Vets clothing line. Might I also add that I represented for the women photographers that day…

The photo that I chose to show was a picture that I took while out and about in North Nashville. We stopped by Ed’s Fish House on historic Buchanan Street. This restaurant has been a mainstay in the community.

DOCUMENTARIAN

I love to just capture life and the people and things in it. I pretty much take my camera everywhere I go because you never know when you may come across a great photo op (or a “video op”), and I like to capture things that aren’t always front and center. I entered a couple of photos into the Metro Arts #OurArtsNash Instagram photo competition that took place in February of 2018, and they chose me to be one of five winners! Opportunities like these have allowed me to showcase my photos in other arenas.

The two photos I entered into their contest are of one of my favorite murals in the city, which is in the predominately black area of North Nashville (taken by my Canon 7D), and of students participating in a film workshop that I did with an elementary class (taken by my old Samsung Galaxy S5 as they film with my Canon 7D).

Speaking of film workshops…

Filmmaking is actually my first love. In fact, I went to school for it at Watkins College of Art in Nashville. I spent my time there concentrating in editing and post-production. After graduating, I had the opportunity to work as an editor on film festival selections and award winning projects, but soon, I began to show an interest in camera work. Since getting behind the camera, I have aimed to create content with substance.

A friend of mine asked me to be a part of a film panel at NIA House Montessori School in Nashville, and since then, I’ve had a great ongoing relationship with the school in terms of creating with them. I have helped the students create multiple short films and gave them a new found love for film…and may I add, EDITING, becasue most adults don’t even want to deal with it (LOL). I have since discovered that I love working with children in the arts in both film and photography in communities around the city because we didn’t have too many opportunities to explore our creativity in school or other places when I was growing up, and they seem to be taking the art classes away nowadays…

Watch one of the films that the students wrote, produced, and edited.
